Product Review : NYC all day long foundation

NYC all day long smooth skin foundation

737 Classic Ivory

HI lovelies! ,
I've been road testing a few of the budget brand foundations in a bid to try save my self a few pennies. The first  budget foundation i picked up was this little one from NYC. I haven't really heard much about NYC if I'm honest. Yes, i've seen the stands in my local Superdrug but i always seemed to skip their stand that is , until now.

I've been on the lookout for a  good coverage foundation that was light enough for my pale skin tone and i just happened to try the tester out for this and it really piqued my interest as it seems to be one of the lightest shades ive found on the high street.and at the bargainous price of only £3.99 how could i resist?

NYC claim :

''An all day long foundation for flawless and healthy looking complexion for up to 14 hours''
  • Visibly reduce the appearance of dark areas and refines skin tone.
  • perfectly controls shine providing a smooth matte effect all day long.
  • Enriched with vitamins and anti-oxidants to help protect and enhance skin for a healthy looking complexion.
  • for all skin types
  • dermatologist tested

The first thing that struck be about this foundation was how thick and creamy the formula was - possibly one of the thickest foundations i've tried. when i first realised this i though it would feel heavy on my skin and wouldn't leave a natural finish but i was pleasantly surprised.

The formula blended evenly and easily ,leaving me with a lovely evened out complexion. It didn't feel heavy at all on my face although when first applied it does feel slightly sticky and tacky to the touch but once it sets this disappears. The finish was also slightly shiny straight after application but nothing which couldn't be sorted with a bit of finishing powder which i always apply anyway. The coverage i would say is medium as i did need to use a little concealer over my blemishes .  As for lasting power , it lasted well into my day I'm not sure about 14 hours but not far from it , amazing considering the value for money.

PROS
  • easy to blend and gave a natural finish without being cakey
  • affordable and easy to obtain
  •  has good lasting power
  • suitable for all skin type
  • dermatologist tested
  • contains beneficial vitamins and anti oxidants

CONS
  • most people will need to powder after using this
  •  slight tacky feeling once applied but does disappear once set.
  • doesnt contain an SPF .
Overall thoughts

I think this is a great little find , it products a nice amount of coverage and isn't to heavy on the skin. its great value for money at only £3.99 and one pump is more than enough product to cover your face ,so i can see it will last a while. The lasting power is fantastic considering how cheap and cheerful the foundation is , definitely one i will be repurchasing.

Nyc is available nationwide from your local Superdrug store  or if youd like to see what other NYC products are available check out the NYC website.

Have you tried this or any other foundation from NYC ? what other brands do you think dont get the hype they deserve

MUA- new product launched - Matte Perfect Primer

Mua has just announced on their Facebook page that they have another new product to add to their pro base collection.

It is a matte primer which aims to control oil and shine and allows your to apply your base makeup more smoothly. It also claims to reduce the appearance of pores and flaws to help create your perfect base which is perfect for oily or normal/ combination skin.
To apply ,just squeeze out a pea sized amount and apply and smooth over your whole face, this should be used after you have moisturised.

As with all their products it's a bargain at only £4 ! Which is very cheap in relation to other high street primers . Loreal studio secrets primer retails at around £10 so this is less than half the price. Well worth a try at that price if you ask me.

I use a primer every days I find it helps to even my complexion and allows my makeup on to glide on more smoothly. I also find that my makeup lasts longer throughout the day without the need for so much touch ups. As someone with normal/ combination I find that a primer is a must so I will definately be investing in this. I'm currently using the gosh velvet primer which I paid £12.99 for so if this one lives up to its promises I will definately be saving myself some pennies.

MUA matte perfect primer is only available online here :Mua store

Mua will also be doing 50 % off online once their Facebook page has reached 50,000 likes , they are so close ,to help them reach their goal head on over to their Facebook page and await their bargains!

Mua Facebook page

They are currently only 300 likes away!

Will you be investing in this product? Do you use a primer?

MUA Pro-Base conceal and brighten kit

MUA conceal and brighten kit - shade porcelain beige.

MUA are a budget beauty brand which are rapidly expanding their line. They started out with bargain beauty staples such as lipsticks ,eyeshadows, eye pencils and nail polishes for the bargainous price of a £1! While these are never gonna win any prizes for design or packaging they deliver what they intend to , good quality affordable products. Since their launch they have one began to expand their line with their Pro-Base collection.

The conceal and brighten kit is one of the first products to launch in this collection which aims to provide blend able camouflage to cover blemishes, scarring, birthmarks and is light enough to use under the eyes.

Inside the pallette contains 2 concealers and a cream highlighter. The two concealers can be mixed to create the ideal shade to match your skin tone while the highlighter provides a lovely shimmery glow . I usually use the lightest shade concealer for my blemishes and the darker shade under my eyes which contains a salmon shade and helps counteract any blue or purple undertones.

I found the concealers a great match to my skin tone and where very easy to blend. They have a creamy consistency and feel light on the skin and as said before can easily be used under the eyes without feeling dry or cakey. Coverage is good and can easily be built p to create the coverage you need. These are best set with a powder as they ate cream concealers to prevent shine and slip. I found that I got a good 6 hours wear without the need for touch ups although one downside is that I found I did get more oiler than usual wherever this had been applied but that is the only complaint and a minor one at that.

These are a great everyday makeup staple and well worth the £2.50 price tag. Suitable for all skin types but those with oily /combination skin may tend to get slightly shinier than normal.

There are 3 shades in the range , porcelain, natural and beige which all tend to be on the lighter side of the colour spectrum which is slightly disappointing but hopefully MUA will expand this further once release has been rolled out further.

The conceal and brighten kit can be purchased from selected Superdrug stores and from the MUA Store

Have you tried these kits? What has been your experience? What is your favourite MUA product so far?

Hello and welcome!

Hi everyone,
I'm Gemma and welcome to my new blog. The aim of my blog is to review budget beauty products and also inform you of any bargains out their to save your pennies. In bad times like these we all need to watch our pennies but we still like to look our best and I hope to help you in both of these areas!

Any product reviews are not sponsored and paid with my own hard earned cash ,so this means I'm entirely impartial and give a fair view point. Please do bear in mind though that what works for me may not work for you and vice versa ,these are only my opinions and vary from  person to person.

I have to say that high street brands are really using their game recently and have came up with some great products last year and in the year to follow there are more exciting things to come. There has also been budget beauty brands which have been expanding heir lines and offering great value for money products.

Which has been your favourite beauty buy so far this year and why?

Love ,Gemz x
